After taking a good chunk of the summer off, I am back. I was hoping to just do I quick post tonight, but I have spent the better part of my tv watching searching for a tutorial. Apparently my tutorial standards are a little high.

I don't know why,but I feel like I can't just post anything. I really wanted a quilt tutorial. I felt like with fall in the air, me being back and well we are a quilt shop, a quilt just fit.

Alas, I did find one. It is lovely. I sweet, modern baby quilt.

I was feeling extremely indecisive while looking for a tutorial today. There is so much to choose from and so so so many creative people all over the web. Sorry I've been absent. I have been a bit under the weather, my hubby is out of town and well with the two combined, I just didn't have it in me to blog. I think that this little quilt is adorable. I love the pattern and I LOVE the Fabric. The fabric is It's a Hoot by MoMo for Moda. I just love everything and anything by MoMo. I love the colors in this line. I love it all and I think the dots are something I need to just have extra of on hand. The totally awesome thing too, is that right when you walk in the door at the shop, we have a whole slew of this line. It is right behind the Dr Suess (which is adorable) display. Go! RUN! Don't walk! You will be so happy you snagged yourself up some and you'll be double happy if you make the quilt. Two happy's is always better than one. I am in a serious redecorating mood. I want to paint my walls. Put new pillows on my couch and bed. Find new rugs for my kitchen. Hang pictures on the wall. I have got an itch. I don't know if it is just some crazy nesting mood I'm in, because of this blah January weather here in

Utah or what. Something has got to give. I have looked everywhere for pillows. I have found some I like, nothing I love and if I love it, usually the price isn't right. I love monogrammed stuff. I love using the letter of our last name to decorate. I have a big old S in my entryway.

I saw this pillow and thought I should so do that. Put my sewing skills to some use. The pic is so cute and would be darling in my boys room. I obviously need something a little different for my living room and bedroom. I'm going to pick me out some perfect fabric at the shop. My monogrammed pillow is going to be oh so cute. So I have four tutorials for you today. They were all so festive and cute I just couldn't decide. I know it is a little late for tree skirts and stockings, but I buy most of my Christmas decor right after Christmas. I love decorating for Christmas the next year and bringing out brand new stuff I totally forgot about. I am in serious need of a new skirt and stockings and I thought these would be super cute for next year. Plus, they seem like nice little Christmas break projects. What tree skirt should I do? I really love them both. They are quite different though. What do you think?

Sorry for the major lack of tutorial on Tuesday. I actually had very good intentions. I searched the web for about an hour. I found things that I kind of liked, but nothing that I loved. I kept searching and went to Paula Prass's blog and well the searching ended. There are a couple of posts on there about her son Jonathan. He died in November of a drug overdose. I sat at my computer and cried for this boy and his family. My heart just aches for them. It is such a horrific thing to lose someone you love. I can't stop thinking about Paula and her family. I pray for them. I hope so much they can find happiness and goodness and light this holiday season. There lives will be forever changed. There is a permanent void that will never be filled and I am so sorry about that. So, you now know why I was missing. I'm sorry to bear bad news. I just didn't have it in my to do a post after that. Sorry for the absence last Tuesday. I was very busy preparing and throwing an Olivia the Pig birthday party, for my 4 year old and 9 of her little girlie friends. It turned out great! I feel like I have been scouring the internet for hours. I actually have a bit of a headache. There are so many fun halloween tutorials on the web. I love halloween! I have been in a bit of a crafty mood. This tutorial doesn't involve any sewing. It does however involve fabric. My week has been hectic, with my six year old getting his tonsils out and my one and a half year old getting tubes in his ears. I have had my halloween decor out for a about a couple weeks now, but I still am feeling a need to add more. Okay so I am back. I took a little hiatus. With the selling of the shop, summer beginning and all the craziness life has to offer, it just sort of fit. Posting may be a bit sporadic with summer here. I like playing with the kiddos as much as possible. I will try my darnedest though to keep you posted on Gracie Lou's news.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement. You all are so sweet and I really needed your understanding for the very difficult decision I made. So, thank you, thank you, thank you! It was SOOOO hard! Might even be worse than childbirth...hmmm...maybe. I also want to thank those of you who were interested, I never in a million years thought that so many women would want to take this on. Please don't be disappointed, I believe everything works out the way it's intended.

Anywho, I won't keep you in suspense any longer. Carrie, yes Gracie Lou's very own Carrie, is the new owner of my little piece of fabric heaven. I am very excited because Carrie is very familiar with all of you, she has been there since the beginning and she and I really do think alike. She is committed to providing you all with the same experience that Gracie's has become famous for, OK OK so we're not really famous, but we wish we were!

Here's what I can tell you about Carrie...

She has an awesome laugh, the kind that makes you forget all the wrong in the world.

Her grand kids are not even funny cute, and they call her Carrie. I'm going to teach Kennedy to call her Granny Fanny BoBanny.

Carrie is completely addicted to Diet Coke but it HAS to be in the can. I think that makes her a Diet Coke snob, is there such a thing?

Last week she had to kill TWO mice in her car...that means she's very brave (yup, I'm still totally grossed out, yes, her car is very clean. We have no clue why the little buggers were hangin' out)

Carrie is very talented, she sews, sings, juggles soup cans, plays the accordion, weaves baskets under water and has mastered the Tahitian Shake. Amazing.

Finally...Carrie is a great friend and an inspiration to me. She kinda sorta shouldn't be here, but I will save that story for her to tell. Her ears are always available and get this...she doesn't give advice...she LISTENS! I know right? Who does that... I don't, just ask Mr. Parry.

You all will still see me around, I love Gracie's and will be her biggest and bestest customer. I hope to do some teaching and maybe even work a shift a week, I gotta feed my addiction. Besides, I know where I can always find a Diet Coke :o)

P.S. I personally saw the goods Carrie ordered at market...oh yummy, you all are going to be in heaven.

Okay first of all, I know Shasta said not to panic, but I am PANICKED. I have been just sick about it all week. The thoughts of going in to the shop and not seeing Shasta girl, well it makes me a bit sad. So I'm just throwing this out to the new owner. Please be funny and sweet and kind and spunky. Please pretty please.

Okay with that said on to the tutorial. I'm super excited about this one for two reasons. 1~ It comes from Joel Dewberry. I love Joel. I love his fabric. From the minute I saw his first line I was in love. I even emailed him once to ask him if he knew of any shops in Utah that carried his stuff. He was so kind in his email he sent back. Joel is actually what brought me to Gracies. After ordering his first line online, Gracies opened and carried it. It was like freakin Christmas for me. I was so excited. To see the fabric in the flesh. There is nothing quite like it. 2~ This tutorial is a quilt. Quilts are where my sewing heart is. I love to sew them and I love to snuggle up in them. I found it on Joel' s blog which is relatively new to the blog world. Imagine the joy when I found out Joel had a blog. Pure sweetness for me I tell ya. Okay, before I say this, please don't panic. Please, please, please don't panic.

I just returned from a week long trip with my family. It was wonderful, it was so nice to get away and think. This last December I had this strong feeling (without getting all religious on you all, it was one of those feelings, ya know what I mean), that I needed to rethink the whole Gracie Lou's thing. I LOVE Gracie's, she gives me so much. I love my customers, my staff, my vendors and just plain being there. So, like a dummy, I just kept shoving the "feeling" back into the corner of my mind hoping it would go away. No surprise it hasn't, it's slowing gotten worse, in exchange making me slightly nuts. I've talked to Mr. Parry and like always, he's completely supportive of whatever I do, the man is a saint. What I want is someone to tell me what to do and how to do it, but then I don't. Geez, I'm such a girl.

Last month, I had the opportunity to listen to General Conference, if you aren't LDS, then just imagine very sweet, wise old men giving you loads of good advice. What I came away with was this insightful quote, "No other success can compensate for failure in the home". The central theme, at least for me, was motherhood, being a mother and how important it is. More importantly that is it divine and I chose and agreed to be a mother, therefore I better make good on my end of the deal. I know and believe that I will and have been blessed beyond any comprehension simply because I am a mother.

I have all these little people running around the house and foolishly they believe I have all the answers. They love me unconditionally, they accept my follies and forgive my shortcomings. They want me to be happy, so they deal with Gracie Lou's and all it's "stuff". I have this huge cheering section...lucky me, problem is they are missing a pretty big section of their own crowd...me. I am just not cutting it. Something has to give. Fortunately for me, I don't need to work outside the home, but yet I am choosing to do so, and it's kicking my butt. It makes me sad that I can't do it all, I try, but it's not working too well.

Now, before you all assume we are on the highway to you know where, we aren't...yet. My marriage is still intact, my kids aren't serving mandatory community time. The house is somewhat clean, thanks to an overpaid housekeeper. The cat is still alive. It's me that has issues, I literally feel like I am swimming up stream. Gracie's is thankfully busy, busy, busy. Izzy & Ivy Designs is rockin' the pattern industry...but something has to go. If it doesn't I am going to have to take my shrink up on his offer of a room with a view. Please understand that I am not making light of this situation, I am just trying to be honest. It is what it is. I am not Wonder Woman, not even freakin' close. I do not own the bracelet or the cape.

So, here's the deal. I am looking for someone or someone's that would like to be the proud owners of Gracie Lou's. She's a great little shop, that is doing everything right. She's busy, has the best customers and of course the best fabric selection. Her POS system is top notch and her building is brand new. I don't want anything, just someone that has the time, energy and passion she deserves. The ideal shopkeeper would be someone without small children, someone who obviously loves to sew and doesn't mind spending lots of time being a shop owner. I promise I will be the best customer ever and if desired she'll come with some pretty fantastic employees. Please help me by not inquiring unless you are very serious. I can provide you with all the necessary info like financials and so forth. Business will go on as usual until Gracie Lou's has a new owner. It's been awesome, and believe me, I love Gracie's, but my job is with all these short folks that call me momma.

Ahhh...I feel better already. :o)

Sorry I have been MIA. Life has been C-R-A-Z-Y. My oldest baby turned 6 last week. I can't believe how time has flown by. My baby baby turns 1 on the 16th. No more babies at my house for now. So sad. I love babies and I love my kids at the ages they are right now. Why does it have to fly by? Don't you just wish you could stop time sometimes? I sure do. There are those moments that you wish could go on forever. So since my babies are not babies anymore and sometimes I just wish there was a small baby around, here is an entire gaggle of tuts on baby stuff. I love this blog one crafty place. Here is a great baby gift idea. I am a huge fan of swaddling, so I of course just think this is fab. Seriously though, I would swaddle my babies until they were ten if they'ed let me. With my last babe I got one of these as a gift and loved it. Have you ever looked for one online? They go for at least sixty bucks on etsy. With all the beautiful fabric right now, you could make some Momma and baby a very happy little pair. So go here for the pattern and tut.

Would you believe me if I told you this child was a borderline genius? He's 13 and I totally want to send him to the zoo. I don't really know what happens to 13 year old boys, they wake up one morning and say, "hey! I think it will be my #1 priority for the next 3 years to drive my mother insane and get everyone else bawling by 5 am with my endless teasing and tormenting". His favorite pastime lately is to call Grace, Grazelswift, don't ask me why, but if you want to see a prepubescent (spelling?) black girl go absolutely bananas, just call her Grazelswift. I keep telling her that the only reason he does it is to see the incredible show she performs, but she doesn't get it. She wants to punch him in the nose, I told her to go for it. He deserves it, but she'd probably hit like a girl, giving him another reason to tease, and then we'll really have the Stadium of Fire in the front room. Meanwhile, Jack will pop popcorn and sell tickets at the door.

When I look at this goofy child, I blame his father. My sweet mother-in-law, Grandma Evelyn aka Shop Grandma, reports Travis was exactly the same. Good news is he'll grow out of it and make some lucky girl happy, that is certain. His dad is the love of my life, you know. Until then, we cope and giggle a little under our breath, he really is kinda funny :o) I love the 13 year old, I really truly do. I can love him at the zoo, right?

He's... just...so...well...13.

Hey Ladies! It's Kira, Gracie's resident "Bag Lady"! I have been asked to guest post a Tutorial Tuesday here for you!

A little background on this little gem of a technique. A high school sewing teacher just recently moved into my neighborhood and taught me this new, improved gathering technique. I have been sewing for about 16 years now, and never have I had something so easy change the way gathering is done. When I demonstrated it for Shasta she just about fell over! She lovingly named it, but I'm not sure if the name would be appropriate to post on a blog. Use you imaginations, better yet DON'T! So here it is....please let me know if it changes your life as much as it has mine!

Start with your fabric to be gathered at 1/4 in seam allowance. Your machine should be set at a straight stitch.

Hold on to your top thread, the way you would if you were just pulling the bobbin thread up if you were just threading you machine.

Now turn your handwheel so that the needle goes down and then back up. Do not let go of your top thread.

Pull your top thread slightly and your bobbin thread will magically come through your fabric.

Match the ends of both threads and pull both threads together out to the length of the fabric you want to gather. This ends up being a really long piece of thread if you gathering a long piece of fabric, just put the threads over your right shoulder so they don't get tangled.

Put both thread on top of your pressur foot, I use foot #1 on my Bernina because it has a groove cut in the center that the thread lays in. Now set your machine to a zig-zag stitch. Length: 2.5 Width: about a 4

Start stitching, make sure you back-stitch. This will anchor the beginning stitches and stop the long threads from coming out while gathering. The zig-zags should go over the center two threads. Stitch the entire edge your gathering, making sure that the long threads stay in the middle of your zig-zags and back stitch at the end.

After your done, trim the zig-zag threads but don't cut the long threads.

Now pull the long threads to start gathering. Your gathers will be even and your thread won't break or pull out! Amazing right? How did I ever gather before this?

P.S. I do have better color coordination, I would never pick red thread for this darling Dolce' fabric (now at Gracie's) but wanted you to be able to see the thread for the steps!

Now go try it and let us know how it goes!

Bella Joan Parry

Tomorrow is a very special day for our family. Miss Bella will officially be ours! Bella joined our family in August of 09' and has been a complete delight! Travis and I were so lucky to be in attendance at her birth and we were able to spend invaluable time with her very special tummy momma, Netta, before she was born. This baby is loved beyond loved, cherished beyond cherished, she is a slice of heaven's pie and we will never be grateful enough. Honestly, we all spend most nights sitting around watching Bella play, giggle, crawl, breathe, eat and even fuss, she is our family's pride and joy. Her affection is something we treasure and she gives it equally to all eight of us. She brings us all true happiness, she is love...perfect pure love.

Adoption isn't something new to our family at all, three of our seven have come to us thru this beautiful option. I will be honest in admitting that I wondered how this would all work out, with the shop, all the kids in school, I mean starting over, isn't that a little crazy? There are six years between Bella and Jack, so we really were free and clear of babies and all their requirements and furniture. You know what? I HIGHLY recommend a "caboose baby", they are so special and enjoyed. Sadly, I am aware of how quickly they grow and how much you can miss if you don't pay attention. I have never wished my children grown, but before you know it they get closer and you're left to wonder where the time went. It's easy for me to get caught up in the mundane and put things off for tomorrow, for me tomorrow always brings new challenges and usually what I put off for tomorrow gets forgotten. Live in the moment is probably something I should take a little more seriously.

So tomorrow is the day for finalization, that means we are officially her family. She gets a new birth certificate, she will legally become a Parry. Sometimes I look at her sweet little face and wonder why on earth she chose us, we are so far from perfect, she deserves so much more. I hope whatever it was she saw in our family that we can live up to her expectations. We try our best, but often come up short. This little princess has captured our hearts and she will be forever wrapped around the little fingers of five older brothers and her bond with her only sister is something to behold, it is so special and unique.

Bella, thank you for brightening our days and giving us hope in God and His plan for all His children. May your days be bright and your nights be quiet, may you always know how deeply loved and cherished your are. You are special little one, and we know you're destined for great things. May you have patience with your parents while they learn what this life is really all about.

Everyday is a gift, we hold one of God's sweetest angels and for that we are truly blessed!

Bella Joan Parry is a testimony of God's love and His desire to give us what we need to be happy...a family.

Sorry I didn't get this up yesterday. I had a massive migraine, which equals me no good. I know Easter is just days away. In all of my searching I found these and had to share. They are simple enough you could get them put together fast. I have seen lots of fabric eggs. I love these though because you can fill them. Imagine the fun things you could put in them. I think they would be so cute in a bowl on your kitchen also. The silhouettes, oh goodness. LOVE them! Without further ado go here for the eggs and here for the silhouettes.

Sunday...a day of ???

The faith I belong to encourages us to keep the Sabbath holy. Basically, what that means to me is don't go shopping, spend time with the family, go to church, think about God and His Son, and take a long nap. Sunday's are supposed to be a day of bliss, a day of reverence, reflection and rest. Well, that's only if you don't live on 90th South at the end of the cul-de-sac with the rooster on the roof. My Sunday goes something like this...

Me: Lou (that would be Grace), it's time to go, uhh no you cannot wear snow boots with that pretty dress. Where are your sunday shoes?

Lou: Somebody stole them again.

Me: Really? Who stole Gracie's shoes? Confess right now or I am sending you to the zoo!!!

All boys ignore question and don't even seem fazed at my scary threat.

Lou: I wish you wouldn't call me Lou today.

Me: Alrighty then, where are your shoes, boys don't wear your kind of shoes Gracie Lou.

Lou: MOM!!! I LEFT THEM IN MY CLOSET AND THEY ARE GONE!!!

Me: Well all I know sister is that you are the only girl in this house that wears glittery shoes in a women's size 7. I would be very concerned about your brother's wearing your shoes, no cross-dressing allowed in the house, YOU HEAR THAT BOYS?!

Again, not even a single nod, all boys are having a out of body experience with the fabulous homemade cold cereal I provided, with love mind you.

Lou: Fine. Stomp, stomp, stomp, sigh, sigh, sigh, sniffle, sniffle...slam!

Five minutes later Grace appears with some shoes that'll work...barely.

Me: Okay, those aren't them, but they will work. When you get home, find your shoes please.

Very pretty large eyes rolling around her head like a tilt-a-whirl. Black girl attitude threatening to emerge any minute. Run for cover boys!!! Where has Lou gone I ask? Oh yeah, that far, far away place called Puberty.

Fast forward about 30 minutes, we have arrived at church with no minutes to spare. The congregation can relax now, The Parry Parade has finally arrived. I tuck them all in, put some spit in their hair, then threaten them again with the zoo.

Jack: I know where Gracie's shoes are mom. Giggle.

Me: Jack! Did you steal her shoes?

Jack: Yes! (hysterical giggles, threatening the entire meetings somber mood)

Me: Oh Jack, now I have to send you to the zoo! Where are your sisters shoes?

Jack: In Brayden's weight lifting bag, he's gonna have to wear them to school all day!!! His girlfriend is gonna think he's a big hairy girl! (please remember that this is the humor of a seven year old, he thinks he's hilarious)

Me: They won't fit Brayden and Grace is gonna be really upset with you.

Jack: I don't care, I'm your baby boy and you'll tell them to be nice to me.

Me (with a SUCKA stamp on my forehead): You're right kiddo, you are my baby boy. Now come give momma a hug. Geez you're adorable...and just a little spoiled.

Me: Hey Grace...I know where your shoes are. Jack stole them.

Lou: Told you so! Geez, you never listen to me.

Me: You're right Lou, I can always count on you to set me straight. Don't worry, I'm sending him to the zoo.

Then we come home. Eat. Throw all our clothes in a huge pile, put our fuzzy warm PJ's on. Fight a little. Eat. Fight some more. Take a nap. Eat. Fight just for good measure. Watch Amazing Race. Eat. Argue about bedtime. Eat one last time. Then do this till bedtime....

We play with our two-headed baby Bella and take pictures of our cyclops Jack. You know, those kids we got from the zoo? Told you we were strange and completely irreverent. What do you do on Sunday?

Feeling much better with a bit of a confession.

Yesterday was filled with not fun allergies. My nose is sore, my eyes are sore and my throat feels like 80 grit sandpaper. While I am beyond thrilled that spring is sprunging (is that a word), it always brings a couple of weeks of miserable side affects. Mr. Parry was on a little business trip, so I was left on my own to deal with all HIS children, all seven of the little buggers. I mean geez, what nerve right? Who does he think I am...their mother? After counting down the milliseconds till bedtime, I decided to self-medicate and this is how it went...

First, nose spray, then eye drops, finally some pills that promised not to make me drowsy.

Second... a long, hot, bubble bath. My tub looks just like this, fun huh? I totally dig it :o)

Then these. Do you know what these are? SAMOAS! The God of all things good and wonderful came up with these just for me, I am certain of it. There is absolutely NOTHING on the green earth like them. Don't believe me? Try one, your life will never be the same. I know for a fact that these qualified for an Oprah "Ah hah" moment. If you happen to see one of those cute little girls peddlin' her Girl Scout Cookies, buy these...buy every stinkin' box she has!
Now the confession...I ate them all. The whole package. Every single cookie. Licked out the crumbs. Chewed on the box hoping it would taste...oh never mind. I really don't know how many come in a package, definately not enough in my humblest of opinions. After my binge, feeding frenzy, moment of insanity, whatever you wanna call it, I went to bed and slept like a baby!

What do you eat in the tub? I'll pick a lucky winner to receive a box of you guessed it...Samoa's!

P.S. I think Diet Coke was mixed in there somewhere.

Okay, so I need like 902 of these! I found this on etsy and had to share the love with all of you! Seriously, I am always amazed at the talent we have in our world. A pattern pocket, that hangs on a hanger, what a snazzy thingamadingy! I love the clear vinyl, you can see the project, but nothing gets dusty. Well maybe your stuff doesn't get dusty, but honey my sewing room resembles something out of The Secret of Nim, yeah it's a little treacherous...and dusty. Ugh. Anywholoo, I promptly bought me this pattern and I will be making them for my UFO's and I think you should too. I believe it is my moral responsibility to help you all with the addiction that plagues us all...Hello, my name is Shasta and I'm a fabriholic (you know you're all sitting in the circle around me). I love me a nice down pillow. As a matter of fact, I sleep with 3. A little excessive maybe. But, I love them. I especially love them when

they have my really soft pillow cases on. I just buy white sheet sets. I can't ever find a great print, in the colors that would coordinate with my bedroom.

This has officially solved my problem. I'm totally cool with keeping the sheets white. Having snazzy pillowcases to lay my head on, plus, add a little something to the room.

Aw, magic I tell ya. I will be having sweet dreams now. I'm going to have me an entire linen closet full of pretty pillowcases. I have Ashley to thank from Film in the Fridge. So go ahead and click here for the tutorial.

I love names, most have a story and that's what makes them so fun! Don't you think it's odd how someone can be named a "not so great" name (such as Shasta) and they just pull it off and then you can't really imagine them with any other name? Well ladies, thanks so much for the info on all your names, and a bigger thanks for giving me my "brand spankin' new really old machine" a name...I think Frenchie is perfect. One because I love Grease, and two, she's PINK! I think Frenchie would be flattered beings that she was nearly nothing but a mere beauty school dropout, now she has the cutest machine west of the Missippi named after her, how great is that!!! Okay, I won't keep you wondering any longer about who won and all. I just want to make it clear that I did not use Random.org to pick the actual name, just the winning numbers, capiche? I love the Candice part too- they both decided long before I was born that they loved that name. They couldn't decide how to spell it though- most were "ace" then. Anywho- they were living in Alaska and had a frozen lake on their porperty during the pregnancy, well year round mostly, and Mom would ice skate tons. So "ice" became the ending. I really like my name. Some people say it's old fashioned, but I think it gives me roots!

And Shasta dear, I am swooning over that machine!! Oh my WOW!! I never knew Singers came in PINK- oh my golly, it's on my list now too- you've officially inspired me :) I just got a new Bernina, so it'll be quite a while, but it doesn't hurt to dream :) Have a marvelous bday!! As to your beauty, I always like to have a "theme song" that I can hum to while I'm working with it (for example, my car's name is Lola). I think you should name your singer Mrs. Robinson.

I'm Cathi, but my full name is Catherine. All my siblings have strong "substantial names" we weren't supposed to shorten them, but most of us did. My middle name is after my mom, Patricia, and all of my siblings have parental or grandparental middle names, so we're VERY SUBSTANTIAL!!!
Your baby needs to be played with while eating cupcakes, because it's for your birthday, pink ones with sprinkles of course, so I would name her PINKALICIOUS!!!!!!

So today is my birthday! I love my birthday, doesn't bother me one bit I'm getting older. I think I was the first human being on earth who was thrilled to turn 30. I felt legit, no longer was I embarrassed to admit I had six kids (all by the time I was 27). People would say, "oh (eyebrows raised), you have six kids, you look way too young. How old are you?" and then I would sheepishly tell them I was somewhere under 30. Then the audible gasp and the sheer wonder on their faces as to how on earth I birthed all these children especially since some are sooo brown. The next question of course was, "is your husband black?", the reply would be,..."uhhh, nope, what was your name, I don't believe I know you?" But when I could finally say with confidence, "I'm 30", the questions seemed to end somewhat, mind you, only in Utah could you really find a thirty year old with six kids. Yep, 30 was my friend, Barnum and Bailey packed up when I turned the big 3-0. How old am I now? 35 and I have 7 kiddos the last one is brown and I'm still married to Travis, the love of my life, and he's whiter than a fish belly.

Speaking of Travis, the love of my life. Guess what he got me for my birthday????????????????

I KNOW RIGHT!!!!! ISN'T SHE BEAUTIFUL! SHE'S OLDER THAN DIRT AND HIPPER THAN HIP!!!! I am in love, she's been on my wish list for a v-e-r-y long time, the coolest part is I really had no clue she was comin' to the Parry Plantation. My hubby is a keeper, I think I will make him some minke boxers on this cutie of mine, hee, hee! I am more than giddy, I can't wait to get my hands on her. She is in transit to my house right now as I type. I am in California at the Spindrift Inn on Cannery Row, the hubby makes a huge to do for my b-day ya know. He's just so darn grateful that I entered this world (that's what he told me today...so sweet I know). Anywholoo, she needs a name. I name all my machines, do you? If you don't you should. In celebration of my good fortune, we are going to have a HUGE giveaway. How about, hmmm.....3 yards of free fabric to 5 lucky winners, all because I am 35! We'll call this game, "It's all in the name".

She is now dead, living in a glass case at the Bean Museam in Provo, Utah. I have no clue why the Liger inspired my dad, but oh well. Something to do with the fact, she was the first born in captivity. Hmm...never really realized the irony there. My dad...felt trapped, captive, stuck, aaaahhhh! Okay, I will end the psychobabble there. Anyway, so I hated my name growing up. Don't mind it now, it's a great conversation starter. I mean really, why couldn't I be named Marci, or Stephanie, or Sandi (I desperately wanted to marry Danny). Not to be, that's just the way it rolled out. I will say this though, if my sweet momma (if you're reading this mom, I love you. It's okay, you were young) had won the name game I would have ended up with these beauties:

Sheesh I had a rough time trying to narrow it down to one tutorial. I am posting three because of my lack at decision making today. They are all three totally different. A quilt, a shower curtain and a baby bassinet.

The quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co, looks quick and easy.

The quilt top you could easily have done in a day.

The shower curtain from Sew 4 Home, would be so fun to spice up any bath, new or old. If only I could get my husband to hang the shower rod.

Now the baby bassinet from Nothing Fancy, is darling. Lola would absolutely love it. I on the other hand, don't know if my sewing skills are up to par for that one. I just might give it a test run on some old scrap fabric. I'll let you know if I try it.

We have this at the shop. It is Dolce by Tanya Whelan for Free Spirit. Seriously I didn't even want to share pictures with you. I want to buy it all up for myself. So bratty I know, but that is what came to my mind when I saw it. It is right up my alley. Plus, this time of year just has gotten me down. I don't think I can stand it another minute. Dolce is happy. It is springy and fresh. It makes me remember that the sun really does shine. Am I the only one wondering that? Rain, snow, rain, a little sun, snow. Grrrrrr. Blue skies come out, come out wherever you are.

The Bird Mobile

This is what I am working on right now for the boys room. I love it! I will be sure to show you pictures when I have it done and hung. I found the pattern via Spool. I have seen lots of different variations of the mobile with the birds. They actually originally made the pattern for tree ornaments. I am going to omit the bird hanging from the bottom. I also just used my scraps to cut out the little birdie bodies. Click here for the pattern. Also, while we are on the topic of mobiles. Do you read The Mother Huddle? Shasta's sister Destri writes it. She just did a post on a butterfly chandelier. The chandelier is for Bella, Shasta's babe. It is to DIE for. Isn't this cute? I love Valentines, my mom always made sure she made a special day of it. While I believe that everyday should be about romance with our better halves, life sometimes just get in the way. So, let me very publicly declare my undying love for Mr. Parry...the love of my life.

Mr. Parry is...

My best friend.

My number one fan.

I think he's very handsome, his backside is F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S! No really it is :o)

He's starting to go gray, and I think THAT is incredibly sexy!

He thinks I am beautiful, even in the morning.

He has never forgot my birthday, or anniversary, and I always make a haul on Christmas :o)

He loves our kids, and he melts my heart when he sings to our baby.

Travis is very smart, about some of the oddest things.

His side of the closet is spotless.

He is silly and goofy.

Because of him, we hardly ever miss date night, he even arranges the sitter.

He's not afraid to cry.

He'll watch chick-flicks with me without complaining, sometimes he even likes them.

He gets up with the baby and lets me sleep in everyday.

He calls me Granny, I have no idea why, but I like it.

Travis always smells divine, don't believe me? Ask the girls at the bank.

He knows all my dirt and loves me anyway, that's the best part :o)

I'm the luckiest girl on the planet, Mr. Right is mine. We will celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary this year, some of those years have been dang hard, but we've always come out on top and I grateful for all those little obstacles. I pray everyday that he will be protected and that I'll hold him for awhile longer. I am lucky in love, what about you? Tell me all about your special valentine.

Wowza! My feet hurt!!!

Ughh. My footsie's hurt. You girls kept me on them allllll day, shoppin' till ya droppin'. No really, the first day of the extravaganza was great, so fun to see so many of you :o) I hope you all had a chance to check out all our newest eye candy. Fall quilt market was awesome and you girls are just now seeing the fruits of my labor in Houston (it's a hard, tough job looking at fabric all day, hee, hee)

Remember tomorrow the love continues, with buy 5 get 1 free. Just a little head's up that Moda's Oz is selling really fast. We have the whole line and the twills also. It's so purdy and bright. I must say though, that my fav right now is Verna, she makes me smile with her soft colors and funky prints. She is B...eautiful!

I also need to let you know that for every customer that spends at least 250.00 this week, they will be put in a drawing to win a chance for them and a friend to attend Pie Plate Patterns retreat in April on Gracie Lou's. I sent some girls last year and they had a fabulous time.

We also have a new BOM program, and guess what? It's traditional! The fabric is Nancy Halvorsen's Basics. I am looking for someone that would like to whip up the shop sample for me. You will get to keep the quilt when we are done, I pay for everything. First come first serve. PLEASE DO NOT offer to do this unless you can get it back to me ready to be quilted in two weeks. You also need to be an experienced quilter with applique know how.

I really struggled today trying to find a tutorial. Not that there aren't thousands all over the web. I scoured and searched and just couldn't find something I was totally loving. I do however keep looking at my bare kitchen table and wonder what I could do to spice it up. I want something springy and bright. Something cheerful. I think I found just the thing. This table runner is so very cute. Simple strips matched with a fun super cute fabric. I am going to be looking for just the perfect fabric while I'm at Gracie's tomorrow. So here is your tutorial. We are women, well at least I think the majority of you reading this are. Why is it that we, as women, are the hardest on each other and ourselves? How often does my daughter hear me attack myself as if my self-worth is made of some type of bulletproof material, it isn't. How is it that I am surprised to hear her say similar things about herself and truly wonder why on earth she would say such a thing, I mean she's perfect in my eyes. How often does my Creator hear me say awful things about one of His masterpieces, whether it be me or someone else? I know for myself, it is a little bit of a downer when I overhear someone mention that they don't particularly like a certain quilt or bolt of fabric in my store. It's not that everyone has to like what I like, but what you like is part of who you are. Your personal taste is just that...personal. I am just as guilty as the next, for some reason I think it is my job to rescue someone from themselves, or to squash their fleeting joy about something they might truly think is beautiful. The point is, we are all different right? We have our own set of strengths, talents and issues. How come we have to be so blasted hard on ourselves and each other???

We are women. We are strong. We are beautiful. We are kind. We are needed. We are loved. We are enough.

Someone asked me awhile back why I started Gracie Lou's. Then I had to ask myself the same question, because quite frankly I didn't have a clue. Was it to make money? Nope, lucky for me, the hubby has that one covered. Do I need something to do? Nope, seven kids, a HUGE pile of never-ending laundry, and all the other things that come with running a house, definately don't need something else to do. Do I have this amazing business mind just waiting to be unleashed? Bwahahahaha, uhh...nope. So why? I don't need the money, I have plenty to do, I was stumped. I kinda sorta still am. I do know this though, I love to be around other women, it energizes me, I love to talk to them, laugh with them and watch them. Being at Gracie Lou's makes me happy, plain and simple, it makes me happy. When I am happy, I tend to think and act more beautiful. I am so happy there in fact that I am having a difficult time balancing my time there and really where I should be...home (I am happy at home too). Maybe I started Gracie Lou's to obviously fill a need of mine to be around people and things that I perceive as beautiful. Being around beautiful "stuff" maybe reminds me that I am beautiful too.

Well, I came across this blog operationbeautiful.com, and I want you all to please go there and see what this is all about. The video below is from the site, you must watch it. It is the simplest of acts, that can make such an enormous difference. I for one, am committing to all of you that I will try my best to quit deciding who is beautiful and will know, literally know, that we are all beautiful to someone.

Remember awhile back, when I asked you if you wanted to join my secret society? This is it, this is my secret society! I looked and looked and found SO many different "projects" and "operations" that I thought sounded great and intriguing but this one made the cut. You know what I found out? All and I mean all of the different things I looked into, they were all started by ordinary women with ordinary lives just trying to make some sort of difference. No different that you or I. So, maybe that's why I started Gracie Lou's was to make a difference, even if that difference is only made for me. I hope that Gracie's is always a place of "yes, I've arrived", you know what I mean? I know that's how I feel when I walk thru that door. Most days anyway. I want you to know that I think you are all beautiful, I think you are the "bees knees"! I do, I really do! So next time you use yourself or anyone else for that matter as a punching bag, just stop. Write yourself a little note and write another for someone else, leave it where it will be seen. Take a deep breath and know that you were created to be beautiful inside and out. We are all His daughters, and He doesn't make "no junk".

So there you have it, my "secret" is out of the bag. Now feel free to pass it along, better yet, as Nike says...Just Do It! Next Saturday the 13th, I will be giving away free post-its pads for all of you that wanna join my club...NO BOYS ALLOWED!!! Can't sleep...

Hey girls! So Mr. Parry is sleeping soundly, well, not so soundly (snoring actually). It's 8:33 pm here in beautiful Maui, home is three hours later, and I can't sleep. Nothing on the tube, so I thought I would tell you about my vacation. Mr. Parry and I come down here every year the same time, I know it's a really hard thing to do ;o) I love it because the whale season is at it's peak. Have you ever seen one? They are amazing! When I was a little girl, I always said I would become a marine biologist. I have always been completely fascinated by the ocean and it's wonders. Someday, I will learn to dive. Anyway, back to the whales...for some reason the channel between Maui and Lanai is like whale soup. The whales come to Hawaii to give birth and mate, so they are really active and they put on quite the show. No need to even go out on a boat to see them, plenty to see right from your cabana on the beach. Last night there was this one whale jumping and breaching, either he was really happy or super mad. It looked just like this pic above. As I watched I was amazed at how big they are, massive is more the word. They are beautiful, how lucky am I to see them in person? How lucky indeed.

This is Wailea Beach, this is where I am. Pretty isn't it? From it's really powdery sand you can see Molokini, Lanai and another island I can't remember the name of. It's on the dry side of Maui, so not too much rain. It also faces the setting sun, last night's was gorgeous. Did I mention I left my camera in my car? Bummer.

I also wanted to tell you guys about a great book I read while down here it's called The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. It's a great read, not too self-helpy (is that a word?), very interesting. The thing I liked most about it was learning to become more happy, because most of us are pretty darn happy right? I also read Nicholas Spark's, The Last Song, very good and yes, true to his work made me cry...alot.

Back at ya with Tutorial Tueday.

I'm not gonna give you one, I'm gonna give ya two.

One for the girlies in your life and one for the little dudes in your life. With Valentines and Easter coming, there are plenty of reasons why the kiddos might need a new somethin somethin to wear. The first one is the All Aflutter Skirt from Melissa at Lilac Lane. So stinkin cute I tell ya. Looks pretty easy peasy too. The second one is The 90 minute shirt from Dana at made. Now anyone with boys knows cute clothes are hard to find. Cute sewing patterns are even harder. This is just cute.

flannel

As previously mentioned I have a ton of babies about to be born. That means I've got lots of baby gifts I need to whip up. I super duper love flannel. Especially soft, scrumptious, cute flannel. There is nothing better than a babe wrapped in a soft flannel blanket. Pair that soft flannel blanket with some minkie on the back and I'd say we've got ourselves a winner. Any who, now that you know my love affair with flannel, I'll stop rambling.

We have tons of flannel in the shop. I'm talkin a whole island of it. There is some reeeaaallllyyyy fun flannel. Like Anna Maria Horners Folksy Flannel. Enough said! Go get you some.

Some dang fun events

There are some really great events coming up that you should know about. First off in February, Delta, Utah will be having there Snow Goose Festival. As part of the festival there is the "Piece in the Valley" quilt show. The dates are Friday February 19th and Saturday the 20th. We will be teaching three different classes at the quilt show. On Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 we will be teaching the Jack and Jill hat by Izzy and Ivy designs. From 1:00 to 4:00 we will be teaching the Beverly Bell Dress Top. Saturday starting at 8:30 and running all day, we will be teaching the Popp'n Posies Quilt by Izzy and Ivy designs. Click here to go right to the spot to download and register for the classes.

Now this next event is a little further off but registration is going on now. Pie Plate Patterns is having there 2nd annual Super Spring Quilt Retreat. It is April 7-10 at the Willow Creek Inn in Ephraim, Utah. We will be teaching the Jack and Jill hat by Izzy and Ivy designs, on April 8 from 8:30 to 11:30. These are two really great events for beginners to experienced. A great way to see what other quilters are up to.

Umm...yeah, today is gooood day! We got some new yummies! First of all, we have Oz, this line is really pretty, it's whimsical and very well...I lub it, alot :o) :o) :o) We have the whole line with precuts also.
Next, is Nautical & Nice by Sandy Gervais. It is so cute. I would love to see someone do a little boy's room in it. So fun and makes you smile. We have this fabric made up into some really sweet kits. We have the entire line and precuts.

And finally, the much anticipated Blush by Basic Grey. This line is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I guarantee it will be outta here quick and it's Moda, so when it's gone, that's all folks! We have the entire line and precuts.

I've had my eye on Woodland Delight. I have lots of friends and family having babies and I think this line would make some dang cute baby blankets.

Oh my goodness, imagine my utter delight when I opened this box today! Cartwheels, scissor jumps, and a cheesy cheer (no I wasn't a cheerleader, but I wanted to be, does that count?) Anywho, our friends at Moda decided to do some of this very wonderful, gorgeous, Shasta's all time favorite line just for me! Well, I wanna believe it was for me, because I nearly drove my poor rep looney begging for more. I know, I know, I have succeeded once again in making you all deliriously happy...you're so very welcome! Come get some before I decide to take it all home and wallpaper my bathroom, recover my couch, recover my chair, make a duvet, whip up a shower curtain, make me a skirt (which would take a lot, have you seen my backside lately?), make Gracie Lou pj's, hang some from my ceiling fan, modge podge the kitchen table and...you get the picture...I LOVE this line!!! Oh happy day, oh happy day, Moda made my day, goooo (rolling of the arms) Moda! (double back handspring with a leap in the middle, I would have been awesome, totally awesome)

Vanilla House

We have this super cute pattern in from Vanilla House. It is a sewing machine mat with pockets. It holds all of your fun supplies, plus protects your table. More importantly it is so stinkin cute. I don't see any other reason to make it, other than the fact that it is cute. That is a good enough excuse for me. It really is functional though. Also included in the pattern is a pincushion and mini iron boards. You could grab some fabric that matches your home decor and you wouldn't feel as bad about leaving your sewing machine on your kitchen table for weeks.

Guess what came today? Lila Tueller's new line Eden.

It is in and it is fabulous. I'm telling you, it is just in time for spring.

The colors are perfect. Pick some up.

It will get you through these drab winter days.

I wasn't able to get pictures of my own. It was still in plastic and boxes.

2010 Class Schedule January, February, March

Jan. 23rd...Bijou Traveler. This bag is fabulous! Kira actually took it to Vegas. She reports it held... candy, a blowdryer, lotions and potions, four pairs of shoes, her son's carseat, her favorite sequined pants and some clean underwear. No really, she packed for the weekend in it. This class is being held on a Saturday, lunch will be served. No beginners please. Pattern required. Class starts at 9 am. This class is 30.00, fee includes lunch.
Feb. 3rd and 25th...Jack & Jill Hat. Love it, love it, love it! Come make one of these to cover all the beautiful noggin's in your life. Guaranteed to cover up the largest, or smallest of craniums. Believe me, in our house we need them large. My kids don't have heads, they have containers for heads. Pattern required. Class starts at 6:30.
Feb. 9th...Lola Goes Shoppin'. She's a beaut! Great way to learn how to FINALLY put a zipper in too! I wanna take her shoppin', I really do. Lola said, she never whined or asked for the sour, powdery, make you wanna scream "is this really candy?" candy. Pattern required. Class starts at 6:30.
Feb. 17th...Quilting 101. Need we say more? Now is the time to do it! Come learn and be hooked. Really easy, really fun and the best part...you'll finish the top in one night. Pattern required. Class starts at 6:30.
Feb. 23rd...Sizzlin' Sixties. Come learn how to use this great ruler to make TONS of beautiful designs. Strip piecing to start with and then voila...gorgeous, tricky lookin' blocks, but they aren't tricky, YEAH! Book and ruler (60 degree triangle with a flat top, we have them) required. Class starts at 6:30.
Mar. 3rd...Macy Giggles Sundress. This dress will make you giggle because it's soooo easy and purdy darn cute. Easter is right around the corner ladies. Sizing up to 14. Pattern required. Class starts at 6:30.
Mar. 9th...Busy Bias Apron. Don't let this cover art fool you, this is really cute, and reversible. One more important note about this class...we will give you dessert, sinful, chocolately (hmm...spelling?), gooey, high calorie and fat dessert. Pattern required. Class starts at 6:30.
March 11... Quilting 101. Great for beginners

Mar. 17th...Buggy Barn's Spring Fever. Spring Fever? Yep, I got it...bad. I LOVE Buggy Barn! If you haven't ever made one, you are missin' out. This method is fool-proof, great for beginners! Book required. Class starts at 6:30.
Mar. 23rd...Farrah Bag. We named this after our own Lauralee (aka Farrahlee), because she looks like Farrah. Yes, she's gorgeous, and talented, and nice (I know, I hated her for a really long time too) Sad part is, she is too young to really appreciate Farrah and her brother never had THE poster. This is a great bag, with lots of bling. Pattern required. Class starts at 6:30.
Mar. 31...Binding 101. The final step to a quilt. Come learn the difference between bias and straight binding. Which one to use, how to cut it and of course how to put it on. Feel free to bring a project needing binding or work on ours. No pattern. Class starts at 6:30.

A quick note about our classes...

All of the classes unless noted require a 20.00 deposit. This deposit only holds your spot, it doesn't cover any supplies or the pattern. This deposit MUST be paid at sign-up, no exceptions. If you buy your supplies from Gracie Lou's, you will receive 10% off. Once you come to class, you will get that money back in either a store credit or you may transfer it to another class, your choice. Please remember that you may transfer your deposit, but if you desire to be signed up for multiple classes at the same time, all those classes will need a deposit also. Your credit cannot be used until you have completed the class. If you miss class without a 24 hr. cancellation, your deposit is forfeited.

Patterns, and fabric need to be purchased before class, please don't come unprepared. It isn't fair to those that are ready. It also causes the class time to go much longer.

All classes start promptly at time posted. Please don't be late.

You will probably have some prep work that needs to be done before class, please be courteous and come ready to sew.

NO children, we are working with things that are sharp and hot.

Kindly give 24 hr. notice of cancellation. If you don't, you will forfeit your deposit.

Please do not expect us to teach variances to the pattern. We cannot help you make things smaller, larger, etc. in class.

You may use our machines, but all other supplies are your responsibility. This includes patterns, thread and of course fabric.

Have fun! Sewing is fun, not meant to be stressful, and remember nothing is perfect!

Want to learn something special, let us know! We love your input. It is our desire provide a fun, safe learning environment for all to enjoy. If these guidelines are followed, classes will run smoothly, end on time and projects will get finished.

Spring Cleaning

Spring is right around the corner. I couldn't be more excited! I can't wait to air out the house, dejunk, play outside. All the good things that spring has to offer. In preparation for spring we have some dang cute trench coat patterns. Super duper cute for young or old. Nothing like a cute pattern paired with some fun bright fabric. Great for when the weather isn't quite warm enough to run around town in your tee. Plus if you have little girlies in your life, the child patterns would be darling. Can't you just picture her running around the park in her cute trench? I'm not real good at sewing clothing, so I have my fingers crossed, hoping Mom will sew one up for Lola. What do ya say Mom? I'll post pics if it happens :) Happy Sewing Ladies!
